Spotlight On: plastique*

INTRO PLASTIQUEOne of the best things about living with a roommate is the constant exposure to the new ideas, interests, and quirks of another human being. I haven’t mentioned much about my roommate yet, but she’s a character. She may or may not be a wicken, and she most definitely loves cats. But one of the things that this beacon of light has introduced me to lately is the stylishly adorable jewelry brand, plastique*. Bright colors, geometric shapes, and punctuation symbols make for my kind of jewelry. So today we’re going to take a quick tour through the current plastique* collections. I promise you, you’re going to love them.

ART DECO COLLAGE{1, 2, 3 (on sale!), 4, 5}

plastique* was founded in 2009 by Jen Murse, a graphic designer with a serious talent for jewelry making. After discovering laser cutting, Jen began making pieces for her and her friends, and before long they convinced her to begin selling her work on Etsy. And the rest is the kind of Etsy internet success story we all love.

Since the early days, plastique* has extended into a diverse collection of jewelry, with pieces ranging from laser cut plastic, to mirrored collections, to the beautiful enamel pieces you see above. Seriously. Do you not love these? The Icosahedron Necklace is one of my personal favorites. So much so that I’ve even started to try working the word icosahedron into my everyday vocabulary. I think it’s catching on.

RETRO COLLAGE FINAL{1 (on sale!). 2, 3}

Jen’s collections draw on all things that inspire her: from retro aesthetics, music and travel, to abstract design and geometric shapes. And I have to say, I’m quite a fan. The Los Angeles Skyline Necklace shown above is actually the piece that my roommate owns, and first spurred my love for plastique*. There’s several skylines from cities around the world, including New York, Paris, and London, among others. I’m just a bit obsessed with them. Just a bit.

Everyone should know by now that I love punctuation symbols. My room is decorated with hashtags and at symbols, after all. And there’s no symbol I love more than the mighty Ampersand. So please just imagine for a moment how excited I was to find all of this Ampersand loving at plastique*. Are you picturing it? I was ecstatic. And I still am. They even have Ampersand Cufflinks for the punctuation-loving men in your life. I know, right. Adorable.

And look at these gems. Literally diamond rings. So cute. All of these unique pieces are offered at awesome prices, so I highly recommend checking out the website to see for yourself. I happen to think that these collections would make great gifts, and as we continue to move into Fall/the holiday season (aka the best time of year ever), I’m always on the lookout for ideas. For those of you in LA, you can find plastique* at several boutiques, including Lallure Hollywood, and Sixhundred. But if you’re not currently located in the City of Angels, don’t fret. You can also find plastique* online on their website, as well as and Modcloth.

So there you go. A quick glimpse at an awesome brand doing big things in the jewelry market. Definitely check it out. I know you’ll fall in love with it just as much as I have. And be sure to keep up with plastique* for special promotions and deals in the coming months! Happy Shopping, Internet friends.
